Three times, in 2003, 2004 and 2005, eccentrics from various worldwide locations, in a parody of the Paris-Dakar rally, were lured by a gent in S.W.England, (who likes to drive around Devonish fields in an old blue invalid carriage while wearing North African garb) into driving the contents of a scrap-yard to West Africa.

Rumour has it that the French still don't really get the joke!

Apparently, despite the efforts of some folk in a "wild west" town called Rosso, nobody died as a result of this.

So the concensus was, "let's do it all again in 2005-6!".

So, from December 2005 onward, over four start-dates, upwards of 200 bangers will head off from all corners of Britain and Europe, towards the Sahara desert, with the intention of getting as close to Banjul in The Gambia as possible.

It seems that there is no shortage of folk with a mad streak in them. Allegedly there were 2000 applicants for the 200 places in this year's event. We were VERY pleased to be selected.
