Rule 1 - The vehicles should have cost no more than £100. Well - there are those that have resurected metalic hulks from the automotive graveyard, determined that theirs should be the most bizarre arrival in Banjul. These folk seem to think that the word "challenge" applies to every aspect of their participation and scoff at anything which resembles modern machinery. There are those who have gone out and hunted down likely bargains, near to the magical £100 figure, which they feel are likely to actually get them as far as Banjul. And there are those who are simply determined to get there, and have just thrown money at it.
Rule 2 - Preparation budget - £15. If this included labour costs, most teams would probably be given the red card.
Rule 3 - No outside support during the event. Not much you can say about this! At the very worst, you could probably just shut the doors and walk away from an uncooperative vehicle!
Rule 4 - All vehicles that actually make it to Banjul will be handed over to the Challenge Control Group to be auctioned for charity. At least some good will come out of one's participation!
Rule 5 - Probably the biggest cause of headaches when choosing a steed - all vehicles must be LEFT-HAND DRIVE!!
